Dr. Amarjit Singh was born on August 01, 1929. He obtained his Ph. D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Purdue University. He served many prestigious organizations viz., Rockefeller Foundation (1963 to 67), G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar (1967 to 1989) and Barwale ( Mahyco Research) Foundation (1989 till date).

The classification, evaluation, utilization and hybrid breeding of rice, bajra, sorghum, and ragi comprise his commendable research activities aimed at improvement of such crops. He also did planning, coordination, production and quality control of nucleus and breeder seeds in seed programs for UPSTDC, NSC, State Dept of Agri and Private Seed Industry etc.
