Dr. Wayne H Freeman was born on November 21, 1915. He obtained his Ph. D. in Agronomy from University of Illinois in 1945. He served many organizations in senior positions during his career and has been associated with Winrock International Institute for Agriculture Development, International Agricultural Development Service, AICRP (Rice), Plant Breeder, National Seeds Corporation, New Delhi. He did commendable work towards developing the cooperation, coordination and interface between public and private sector seed industry
He broadly emphasizes on integration of technology at the farm level and devising new methodology to transfer technology to farmers whose farms are at subsistence level or below. |
In August 1961 he joined the Rockefeller Foundation to serve in the Foundation's Agricultural Program in India , first as a seed specialist to assist in the organization and operation of India 's National Seeds Corporation, and organization established to promote the seed industry in India. One of his most prominent contributions was to accelerate research and development on an interdisciplinary multi-location basis, which has become a model for IRRI'S International rice testing program also.
