Dr. Jayantrao Patil was born in Bordi, Thane district. He earned Master of Science (Ag.) from University of Pune. Under Fulbright Programme, he obtained M.S. from Kansas State University. The Konkan Agricultural University conferred on him honorary Doctor of Science. He worked incessantly for tribals of India, the weakest section of society. He developed various technologies like Surface Well for Water Conservation, Green Manures, Three Crop Cycle, Horticulture, Nutrition Gardens, Nutritive Fodders and Agro-Forestry, resulted in bringing about food and nutrition security to them.

He was appointed Member of Planning Commission of India and made contribution for preparation of 8 th Five Year Plan. He worked as Adviser to Government of Maharashtra in Agriculture and Horticulture. Dr. Patil received Jamnalal Bajaj Award, Yeshwantrao Chavan Award and Vasantrao Naik Award. The Government of Maharashtra conferred on him highest award of 'Krishi Ratna' for his contribution in Agriculture & Rural Development. Very recently he received Mother Teresa Award for his selfless service to tribals.
